HISTORY OF THE JAM
March 2013, a dream was made...
A basketball tournament created to keep friends in the Grafton community together as the years roll on. This annual event was a way to build and restore relationships with those who have shaped our lives. While also getting those competitive juices flowing that we had all come to miss as athletic careers come to an end. After 7 years of on and off events consisting of average ball, extremely hot days, super soakers, and great times, the people still wanted more.
2020, Covid strikes...
With limited access to activities and even friendship in general, there was only one shining light...golf.
So, SJ transitioned to a golf outing thinking we'd get 20-30 interested participants for a fun day away from the stress in the fresh air. Within a day or two we were full at 64 participants for the Fall Classic at beautiful Clearview CC. After the success of the first golf outing expansion was needed.
2021, The SummerJam Classic...
We'd quickly upgrade to 18 hole courses with 140+ participants. The event now included, local sponsors, raffles, volunteers, after parties, raising thousands of dollars for local causes, SummerJam was now a true part of the local community. A can't miss event to bring friends back together, play a great game, and raise money for causes that have a real impact on people around us.
Today..
After 10+ years of the Jam (6 golf outings, 4 basketball tournaments, and a couple lockout years) we have raised over $20,000 for local causes, 50+ sponsors consisting of local businesses/people who have helped push the Jam to new heights, and the love for the Jam continues to grow. As our community continues to expand through this annual event and new jammers are entering the world the future looks bright and we are excited to see what comes next.
